Frequently asked questions
What airport should I fly into?
To arrive in our Playa Gigante, Nicaragua location, either Managua (MGA) or Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR) are equal options to fly into.
Who picks each person up? Do they have to arrive at a certain time?
Ingigante transportation shuttles will pick up each person directly from the airport based on their arrival time. If people arrive within the same hour, we will wait to put in the same shuttle, but people do NOT need to worry about the shuttle schedule, we will handle that.
What is the local currency? Is foreign currency necessary?
The local currency is cordobas, where approximately 35 cordobas= $1USD. There is no need to get currency ahead of time, USD are accepted everywhere. Credit cards can also be used and ATM’s are accessible if necessary.
What are the details about a traveler’s visa?
For US travelers, you simply pay on arrival for a 90-day tourist visa that costs $13. No forms or advance planning is required. A passport MUST BE valid for 6 months AFTER the travel date. For non US travelers, we can look into things on a case-by case basis.
What is flying into Managua like?
In a sense, Managua is easier as there is no border crossing process, so you land and then take a 2-2.5 hr shuttle direct to the hotel. This airport is not as Americanized, so it may feel a little more unfamiliar, but as long as you have your passport, proof of vaccination OR negative PCR Covid test, and $10 USD, Managua is pretty easy.
Is Nicaragua safe?
Like many countries, Nicaragua has some political conflict and some differing internal opinions, however that does not make Nicaragua unsafe for travel. In the Southern beach communities, it truly is a vibrant, friendly, and peaceful experience that is separated from any large, populated cities. All of our Room to Roam team of drivers and staff have been strongly vetted for professionalism + safety, and our hotel has overnight security 7 days a week. Despite feeling very safe in our community of Playa Gigante, we place high value on guest safety and comfort. By exercising general safety and caution recommendations and avoiding any political activity or protests, you can also do your part by being a smart + savvy traveler.
How are tourists treated in Nicaragua?
Very well. Our community is a friendly, local + expat blend of people who all enjoy the simple, beachy life and exist in harmony. Americans are not targeted or disliked, everything is mellow and cool.
Is there a hospital/medical care nearby in case anything happens?
Yes, there is a Roberto Clemente Health Clinic 15 min away, and a very nice private hospital in Managua if something serious were to happen.
Can other activities be arranged onsite?
Absolutely, we are happy to coordinate any available activity for you on-site.
Are there options available for guests with dietary restrictions?
Absolutely! Plant-based, vegan, dairy-free, gluten-free, keto, anti-inflammatory, ect. We kick ass in the kitchen and all guests have loved our food and commented their digestion has never been better.
